A metal recycling company which was launched at the start of the coronavirus pandemic has seen its workforce grow after its owner invested over £1.5m in infrastructure and equipment.
Northern Metal Recycling was founded by owner Jordan Bell, who wanted to create a one-stop shop for businesses across the North East.
With his vast experience of the industry, Jordan knew selling processed metal was far more lucrative than unprocessed, so wanted to create a business which offered both collection and processing to clients, particularly those within the engineering and manufacturing sectors.
Bringing on board industry professional Chris Trotter, the business quickly grew and now employs 10 people with further recruitment ongoing.
Northern Metal Recycling, which is based at Hackworth Industrial Estate in Shildon, County Durham, provides metal recycling and demolition services, offering an efficient, cost effective and environmentally friendly solution in commercial metal waste and scrap metal removal.
Once processed, all metal is then exported exclusively out of North East ports and rail networks to mainland Europe and the Far East, where it is melted down and re-used.
Northern Metal Recycling, which works to stringent industry standards as well as Covid-19 restrictions, is a collective of recycling experts, most of whom have been made redundant from previous roles and were looking to create a ‘go to’ company that businesses could trust.
Commercial manager Chris Trotter said: “Our aim is to change the image of the recycling industry by establishing a reputation for excellence and positioning Northern Metal Recycling as the leading provider of metal waste and scrap metal removal services.
“We launched the business during what’s been undoubtedly one of the toughest years the country has faced, certainly in recent times, yet have managed to trade throughout and are now employing 10 people.
“Not only that but the owner has invested around £1.5m in industry leading machinery and infrastructure, with further capital expenditure committed across the site which will be finalised in the coming weeks.
“We are also currently in the process of recruiting a business administration apprentice to support the team as we grow and our plans are that we will continue to recruit to meet the demands of our expanding portfolio of clients.”
Northern Metal Recycling offers clients a bespoke service for the recycling of all ferrous and non-ferrous metals which means it can offer customers a level of service that exceeds exceptions and gives an accurate return on commodity credits.
And as the company looks to build on its first six months of trading, the owners have confirmed they have ambitious plans to grow outside of the North East region.
Chris added: “Our team is vastly experienced within the waste metal recycling industry and their reputations are really helping us embed ourselves within the region, despite the fact we are a relatively new venture.
“We have already proved we can trade successfully in the toughest of economic climates and looking ahead we have set ourselves very ambitious growth targets which include attracting national and even international clients.”
