Council celebrates its 100th recycling and waste management talk

October 30th, 2017 Martin Walker News 0 comments 0

County Durham’s strategic waste management team has celebrated giving its 100th talk within a year to schools and community groups from across the region.

Durham County Council recycling assistants Rob McKay and Matt Crane gave the landmark talk at Grove Park, Barnard Castle to an over-55’s group.

The council’s strategic waste management team offers free talks and assemblies on recycling and waste management in County Durham.

The talks cover everything from waste prevention to composting and the team always bring examples of what you can can’t recycle.

Cllr Brian Stephens, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for neighbourhoods and local partnerships, said: “County Durham residents are already doing an excellent job of recycling, and that’s in part thanks to the continued efforts of our strategic waste management team, who’ve been up and down the county spreading the word about our environment and all the benefits that come with protecting it.

“The talks last about half an hour and cover everything you could want to know about your rubbish and recycling, as well as including tips on waste prevention, reuse, composting, and our ‘love food hate waste’ campaign.”

The talks are designed to complement Durham County Council’s other waste management campaigns, including the ‘Bin it Right’ campaign, which specifically focuses on reducing contamination.

For more information about a recycling and waste management talk please email [email protected] or phone 03000 266102 after 12 noon.
