Advice: Stay secured, stay assured

April 28th, 2020 Martin Walker Business 0 comments 0

Cheryl Spears, sales director at Lucid Technology Solutions, recommends all companies must consider obtaining the cyber essentials certification.

Cyber essentials protects against 80% of common cyber threats.

The MOD has mandated that all suppliers and subcontractors have the certification in place to work with them and other public services are due to follow, especially with Covid-19 influencing some types of cyber-crime.

Cyber essentials proves you are a secure business to work with. I wouldn’t work with anyone who can’t prove to me their systems are secure, especially seeing all the cybercrime as I do, and the increase in Covid-19 attacks hasn’t helped the situation.

During Covid-19 we can still investigate, test, recommend and carry out improvements remotely, so clients can gain the certification during the lockdown and in the aftermath.

Cyber essentials investigate:

Firewall – is it set up correctly to prevent unauthorised access to your internal networks?

Configuration of your system – computers and network devices should be configured to minimise vulnerabilities and provide only the services required.

Access control – does each employee have the right level of access? Can they see things they are not supposed to?

Malware protection – checks to see if anti-virus and anti-malware is installed for data security.

Patch management – are all devices on the network getting patched and how frequently?
